So much for a daily blog…

Monday, May 31st, 2010

More like Weekly and maybe sometimes by-weekly. In my defense we moved this weekend and the end of last week so I didn’t have much time. I know… excuses, excuses! I am not in much of a blogging or designing mood lately though. I think I found a Wacom Bamboo Tablet that I may try and pick  up tonight if the person messages me back. Maybe that’ll get me in the mood. There is tons of tutorials for drawing with tablets to get me started. I have been trying to do a little photo manipulation and also have put my 2 cameras up on kijiji.ca to see what I could get out of them. I want to either trade the two of them up for a better dSLR or sell them and buy one.

So I said we moved this weekend. We have everything finally in my parents place and guess what? On Saturday while in the middle of moving our water pipe decided to burst flooding the basement and endangering everything we just put down there. Not to mention the fact we spent most of the weekend with the water off while trying to first fix then replace the pipe. Lets just say there was no happy campers in my house this weekend.

I got a raise this pay, plus there was no rent to pay (other then the $50 bi/weekly we promised to pay mom each to live there to help with food and such) so for once I paid everything up a little in advance and still have a little left over. What a nice feeling!

Going to start back on walking every night tonight. Put it off for the weekend figuring that 1) there would be no time and 2) we’d be too tired and 3) we got enough excersise by lifting heavy furniture and sweating in the hot sun while doing it… so back to the daily grind tonight. If Keith won’t come I’ll grab a dog and go for a short walk with them just to get back into the swing of things.

Going back to school?

I fixed the theme a little more. It should now fit on 1024×768 and higher resolutions. I would have to really redo the whole thing to be able to get it viewable on 800×600 +. I may still do that in the next few days as it really wasn’t all that hard to make it fit 1024×768. I also fixed all xhtml errors and it is now XHTML 1.0 Transitional. And I fixed most of the CSS errors as well. There is still one error which I do not know how to get around and a few warnings but I will worry about them later. All in all I am extremely pleased with it.

Now it’s time to start working on a design for my portfolio and take some more pictures and create some more sites to use in it. I think I am going to do a weight loss blog. I know everyone seems to have one and I hate jumping on the bandwagon and doing it too but it will help me so I don’t really give a damn what other people think. They can read it or not…

I’ve been thinking really hard and I think as soon as I get a majority of my debt paid down I am going to apply to NSCC for either Graphic Design or Photography. I will probably apply to NSCAD as well but if I don’t get in there right away maybe I will go with NSCC first as they are both only one year programs. And then maybe it might be easier to get into NSCAD after that. I really enjoy designing and really want to go to school to do it. In the mean time I will just keep plugging away at it on my own.

I finished my first week of 9-5. What a difference! I always felt so tired and just didn’t feel much like doing anything on the 1-9′s but with 9-5 I get up easily in the morning and I feel awake and refreshed. I really don’t want to go back to 1-9. It’s amazing how much your work hours can affect your life and your health. As soon as we move in with my parents I am going to start walking every night and see if I can loose some weight. I am not sure exactly how much I weigh but I know I am overweight. If I watch what I eat then I should be able to do it easily. Since we are at my parents this weekend I am going to try and go for a walk somewhere tonight.

Damn…

Edit – I fixed it so it was centered and everything seems to line up and show up in every browser and resolution I have tried. I may try later and see if I can get it to fit on a 1024×768 screen without having to scroll. But that would require resizing the whole thing… so I think I’ll leave that till later.

I realize there is some issues with this theme. Some of the backgrounds are not repeating properly in certain browsers and certain resolutions look awful. I am working on that. Not to mention the errors with validating… working on that too. I guess I jumped the gun on this one and should have waited. But since the last theme looked wrong in IE I guess it’s just trading one problem for another… anyway.

Last 1-9 for now!

Today is officially my last night shift at work! I start 9-5 on Monday. For the month of May anyway. Hopefully it will be a permanent thing! I don’t mind nights but days are better. I will miss sleeping in though! Am I the only one who loves to stay in bed till 10 or 11? I don’t like doing it every day. Just once in a while. So anyways I guess I am excited about it! I have not been doing a lot other then going from work, to home and home back to work it feels like. So maybe the change of hours will be good.

Keith and I are looking for a house. We are hoping to rent something just outside the city since our hours will be similar and he can get a ride in with me everyday. I really want something homey and not too small but not too big either. 2 or 3 bedrooms. One for us. One for a computer room/rec room. And a spare bedroom that we can get a little bed for (or maybe an extra bedroom for us later?!?!). We want to find a place with a nice big back yard, a deck (or somewhere where they will allow us to build one). Keith is a carpenter so we are hoping maybe we will find a place that the landlords will not mind us improving and maybe compensating some… They seem to do that a lot in the smaller towns around here. People don’t care if you ask first usually. I want somewhere where we can get a dog. I really would love to get a chocolate lab or something like that. Apartments are no place for animals. We learnt that with Midnight. She drove us nuts. I have never seen or heard of a cat that could not occupy herself!

I’ve been searching the web for tutorials for photoshop and illustrator and I found a pretty good site that gathered a bunch of website layout tutorials. They are great cause you can follow it and create what they have and then you can do it a second time and let your imagination run wild! To bad I don’t know how to code something that comprehensive from scratch. But I am going to try it. I’m going to take my time and take a couple of weeks and really design it. Then take a few days to figure the coding out. And then who knows. If I like it I will put it up here. And I may make a few for download. I know I can do it. I just need more time to do things. But I annoy Keith when I am on the computer a lot. So I try doing it at work or when he is occupied with hockey. Since that seems to be never ending right now. I will be soooooooo glad when the playoffs are over. I would love to see Pittsburgh win though. Just because of Sydney Crosby!

Things to do…

I’m absolutely hooked on Facebook games. I feel like I spend most of my internet time on Facebook playing games. There are a few in particular that I always play. Treasure Madness and Treasure Isle are my favorites. How about you? What do you guys do one Facebook? I occasionally talk to my friends and family. I should maybe do that more… But more often then not I am playing games of some sort.  I don’t know why but they are so addicting!

I just renewed my Club Pogo membership. I used to spend a lot of time on there playing games. I got addicted to that too. Especially Poppit! It’s not that the games were great. Just something to do. I also liked collecting badges and having goals and challenges to work towards. It all comes down towards things to do when your bored. And I get bored so often :-S

I find I am always looking for tutorials for Illustrator and Photoshop or stuff that is Photography or Web Design related. I love looking for inspiration and just to see what other people can and have done.  Anyone know of any really good collections of tutorials? I want to learn more about illustrator. I was thinking about getting a cheap (for now) graphics tablet, something similar to this one. But I honestly don’t really know anything about them and which ones are good. Guess it’s time to do a little research.

Yay for useless random info…
