  • Christmas Tree Lighting

I have not been to a Christmas tree lighting in Digby since my last year of high school in 1997 so I was really happy when Mom told me we were going tonight! Cory and I traveled in a bit early, went to McDonalds for lunch and then for a drive to the Digby ferry. I did not get a picture as we didn’t get close enough. However we stopped on the way back at the Digby Pines which is a beautiful old wooden railway hotel built in 1905. I took the picture below from the road so it is not the greatest image but you can see it’s beauty and can see a better picture by clicking the link above.

We then wet for a drive first down Lighthouse Road in Digby. I wanted to get a picture of the lighthouse in the snow but the road was too bad and I did not want to chance it in a car without winter tires on a very hilly and dangerous at the best of times road. After that we headed out of the snow and down Digby neck. I wanted to visit my Nanny and Grampy’s and my Uncle’s Denton and Mark’s graves in Centerville but I drove by saying we would stop on the way back and we never did. [...]

  • The Winter Blues

Anyone else tend to suffer really hard from the winter blues? I know I tend to. Each year I start the winter with high hopes that I will get out, go skating, go sledding, go skiing or snowboarding and keep active and busy and beat the winter blues. Unfortunately that never seems to happen or very seldom. Sometime around the half way mark I go from wonder at the first few seriously pretty snow falls, which I always tend to look forward to at this time of year, to just being fed up with it all and wanting so so so damn bad to be warm again!

Last winter was a particularly brutal one. We had a number of paralyzing snow storms which brought the whole city to a grinding hault. It usually happens at least once a year every year but last year it seemed to be endless. There are other years in my recent memories like that as well. For me, I think the worst thing, and sometimes the best thing, depending on how you look at it, is still having to go to work, despite the fact that my car is buried in a 10 foot snow drift that I have to spend 3 hours shoveling out of before I hit endlessly treacherous roads where I slip and slide my way into the parking lot, only to have to do the whole thing over again to drive the few blocks home. Seems pointless… why do I not just walk you say? Come on… I know that’s what your thinking. [...]

  • Remembrance Day

So today is Remembrance Day in Canada and Veterans Day in the US. Which is a day to remember all who have served our countries and to remember all those men and women who have lost their lives for our freedom. I know there are many other countries that have their own holidays to remember and honor their service men and women who have given up their own freedom in order to fight for or preserve the freedom of others.

Remembrance day when I was younger was always a big thing. When I was in elementary school I was living in Germany on a Canadian military base and we always had a moment of silence at 11 am on November 11th (11-11). We would recite In Flanders Fields. We had services to honor those who fought for freedom. I am sad to see that that has declined over the years. [...]

  • Shopping for fall & winter clothing.

I struck out at Value Village yesterday, I tried on about 25 different things and was not happy with any of it. I did find one maroon colored sweater dress that was really really cute on the hanger. On me, not so much. It was a really pretty color that suited me well but it was too long. It was a cable knit and I really loved it when looking at it on the hanger but the fact it was too long just looked weird on me. I struck out in the leggings department there as well. Any they had where horrible bright gaudy patterns that just looked so wrong on me. Same with work blouses/shirts. Plenty that looked really cute on the hanger but none that looked so great on me.

The shopping trip was not completely a loss however. We went before Value Village to the Weekend Market in Dartmouth with Erin and Cory’s cousin Scotty and I did manage to get my brother taken care of for Christmas. I found a Jimmie Johnson McFarlane Toy Figure and a gold card. He is a big fan of NASCAR and Jimmie Johnson in particular. So that is him pretty much done. Might get one or two other small things for him. I also got an idea for Cory for Christmas. One of many actually. I just have to wait till the pay after next and I am going to see if I can find it online and see if I can get a better price. [...]

  • New computer and back to work, again…

First off, I just want to say thanks to everyone who commented on my last post. I usually reply to every comment but quite honestly right now I just do not have the energy. But thanks again to Kristina, Holly, Sam, Arlene, Christa, Nancy, Raisa, Sakura and Carolynne for the well wishes gabapentin 400 mg. The good news is, I am finally starting to feel better!

I have been back to work for 2 days now. I had a whooping cough test done last week and it actually came back negative. I was told that does not necessarily mean that I did not have it, however since I had been coughing for many weeks (6 I believe at that time), that the bacteria could be gone from my system and just the cough remaining or I might not have ever had it at all.

I had seen a respirologist last week since the cough was still remaining. She said it sounds more like an asthmatic cough now and she did a lung function test and told me I needed to be back on medication for my asthma. Because of the severity of the cough, the possibility of having had whooping cough, and the length of time I have had the cough she decided to throw everything but the kitchen sink at me. [...]

  • The fireworks mess-up and my Birthday.

So if you’ve read any of the comments on my previous post you’ll know that I did not get any pictures of setting the fireworks off on the beach. Of the whole trip really. I did get a few instagram pictures with my iPhone of the trip but nothing really spectacular. We got half way to Digby before I realized that I had taken my camera out of my car the night before to take some pictures off of it and forgot to put it back in. I was not a happy camper (litterally I guess)

Taking pictures with my iPhone of fireworks never worked before when I had the iPhone 4 so I just assumed that it would not work this time. I guess I was wrong about that too. I found a lot of sites that show decent pictures of fireworks with the iPhone. Oh well… [...]
