2018 – A Year in Review

Happy New Years!!! Well, it is New Year’s Eve and tonight we are heading to my parent’s house for a new years eve party. They invited a bunch of friends of the family and we are staying the night as we don’t want anyone drinking and driving. We’re going to bring our blow up air mattress we got for camping a few years ago for our honeymoon and sleeping somewhere, though I am not sure yet where. We are going to play games like Uno and Bad People a game my parents got for Christmas.

Anyways, I’ve written and re-written this a few times. I find it a bit hard to look back on a whole year, mostly just because it’s hard to remember what happened when and also I never know what is the best way to write about it. Sometimes I feel writing is not one of my strong points, even though I have been blogging for almost 20 years – more than half my life! I’m just going to jump in though and sort of go in chronological order and do the best that I can to remember everything, not that there really is all that much to remember. READ MORE

Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone is having a good holiday season! Eddie and I had a great Christmas. We spent Christmas Eve at home in front of the fire while watching It’s a Wonderful Life and sipping hot chocolate (reduced sugar one for me). The only thing that would have made Christmas any more wonderful would have been cuddling on the couch together but we only have one comfy couch and one not so comfy one and the comfy one is only a small love seat which really is not big enough for the two of us. He almost always gives up the comfy couch to me. We went to bed after the movie finished around 11 p.m. because we wanted to get up fairly early in the morning to drive over to Mom and Dad’s for breakfast and presents.

We got up about 7 a.m and drove over just after 8 a.m. to my parent’s place. My parents gave us all the stuff from “Santa” for Christmas. We got a new 12 piece reversible comforter set for our bed in blue and beige and a car remote starter kit which hasn’t arrived yet as they had to order it from a store up in Halifax and some gift cards. I got 2 sets of PJ’s, 2 sweaters for work (oh and I got a job like 3 days before Christmas but I’ll explain more about the below), socks, a toque and a Fortnight hoodie and my father had the idea of putting lots of chocolate and candy lose in all our stockings which is why it is in a ziplock bag.  I am ashamed to say I ate most of it already. So much for self control. READ MORE

First large snowfall

We had our first large snowfall last night and today. It started off with freezing fog and mixed precipitation yesterday afternoon but turned to snow right at bedtime about 11 p.m. and kept all through the night until about 3 p.m. today with lots of wind as well. We woke up this morning around 6 a.m. to no power and had no power until about 10:30 a.m. which is quite common during the winter around here. We got about 10 cm of snow total, some parts of the Maritimes got upwards of 30 cm!

This afternoon just a few hours ago I decided I needed to take a break from typing and went outside with my Cannon and took a few photos. Nothing spectacular but still pretty all the same. Here are a few of them and I’m sorry they all ended up slightly out of focus because I didn’t use the autofocus and apparently I need new glasses. READ MORE

Who really likes giving injections?

I know I certainly don’t. I don’t think any diabetic does, do they? Whether you have Type 1, Type 2 or Gestational Diabetes, if you need to take insulin you just do… don’t you?? You don’t act like a two-year-old, well unless you really are a two year old and scream and cry or pout or refuse, do you? Well… maybe you do? I know I sure feel like it sometimes. I literally want to lay down on the ground and have a full on temper tantrum and yell at my husband that he’s so mean when he tries to convince me that I need to. Sometimes times I want to be that petulant little toddler who stubbornly refuses to do as I’m told or as I know I should do. Why? Because it hurts… It just fucking hurts. There I said it.

Some of it is probably in my mind. So yeah, great now on top of being a temper tantrum throwing 2 year old, I’m crazy to boot. But am I? Nothing about diabetes is easy. It’s all a struggle. From counting carbs, assuming you do so, and I’ll admit, I really don’t. To testing your blood sugar. Thank you to the diabetes gods for inventing the Freestyle Libre, or no, maybe that was Abbott. To trying to eat healthy and in my case failing miserably. To getting exercise and losing weight, assuming your overweight. To trying to just understand the disease and control it. It just really really sucks sometimes. READ MORE

Feeling sick & a to-do list

I have been thinking a little about some things I want to get done around the house both inside and out. I wasn’t feeling that good yesterday and started writing this post then and am having a hard time concentrating so I figured I would give up on work for the evening and just watch TV or read and write another blog post for tomorrow. I’m not sure why I feel sick but it started last night with some nausea and a headache and today I have felt really sick to my stomach and just a general uneasy/unwell feeling. I’m guessing a bit of a stomach bug or something. I took some gravol and fell asleep on the couch for about 90 minutes. I woke up feeling about the same.

We got up at 7 a.m. and were supposed to be on the road by about 7:30 to 8 a.m. with my Mom to Halifax to do some packing and cleaning the apartment but my Mom left Brighton about 7:10 and got as far as the exit to Digby (2 exits before us) and she couldn’t see 2 feet in front of her it was snowing so bad. She’s uncomfortable driving in the snow so we rescheduled for Tuesday and are going to go up than with her and maybe Dad too and do some packing, cleaning and sorting through our stuff as we are going to get rid of some things.
