Happy Birthday Maxy!

While I am a bit belated on this my sweet little Maxy cat has turned 8! I can not really believe it but this handsome, sweet, cuddly little boy has been with me now for 8 years Back in November of 2011 my mom showed up one day at an apartment I had in the basement of a house in Hubbards, Nova Scotia with a box on the front seat of her van. I remember going out to the van and she said “Shh… come look” and low and behold this little cutie was asleep in the box

I remember thinking two things. One, wow his ears are bigger than his little furry face and two, “oh what a cute little kitty!”, at this point I don’t think yet it had even clued in that he was mine. I was wondering what he was doing in the box and why my mom, who was never a huge fan of cats had him. I hadn’t yet put 2 + 2 together and came out with 4. I asked her who’s he was and she said “yours” and I was like, “yeah, right”. See the thing is… I was not a fan of cats either. However that being said, I had mentioned to my boyfriend at the time that I was lonely there all alone and a cat would be company but I didn’t really want one and didn’t think my landlords would let me have one.

Well, apparently they would have. He had mentioned it to my mom and she had come over one day when I was in town and had asked them about it and they said yes. A friend of hers in Digby had a cat that had just had kittens about 6 weeks ago and they would be ready to go in 2 weeks and so that’s the story of how I ended up with the worlds cutest, sweetest, cuddliest (when he wants to be) and really terribly bad little kitten named Max

His badness never really let up for years. He’s a wild cat sometimes and can fly off the handle and bite scratch or just want to tear you limb from limb occasionally. It has slowed down over the years and now he just likes to lay down beside Eddie or I and be petted a little or sometimes he will crawl up in our laps to be cuddled and petted. As he gets older he seems to get sweeter and sweeter and more content to just stay close. He’s turned into an awesome cat that still has a little bit of a wild streak here and there. Honestly, I can’t complain.

He’s been a very happy and overall healthy cat since I got him years ago. As he enters his senior years he really seems to be very happy and healthy and I really hope it stays that way. He’s got quite a personality and I love watching him run around chasing his toys and playing with my husband and I. He needs to lose some weight but it can be hard to motivate him sometimes. Here’s to the next 8 years! Happy Birthday baby boy!

So This is Christmas

Driving home from an Oral and Maxillofacial appointment in Halifax today with Mom and listening to Christmas music (I wasn’t much in the mood at first but she felt like listening) I decided that this year I was going to try and do things a little differently for Christmas. I say this now I know, but I really am going to try. I promise I am going to try my best. What do I mean by that?

I am determined this year to get a bit more in the Christmas spirit. I am going to take a bit of money this week that we have extra and get a few things to decorate with. I am not one to go overboard anyways. However, I really want to put up some nice decorations and maybe even a real tree or at the very least a proper artificial one. We even have one from a few years ago out in the garage.

One of the songs Mom and I heard was this one by John and Yoko:

I have always been a big fan of John Lennon and of The Beatles actually and this song has long been one of my favorite Christmas songs. I know some people found the song to be weird and John & Yoko obviously but I loved it and it’s one of the most memorable Christmas songs from my childhood. All of the Christmas songs we listened to really put me in the mood.

When I got home since I am still not feeling well and since my husband was at work I had started to read some blogs and then I got to thinking I wanted to make a Christmas theme for my blog. Something I don’t think I’ve done in a long time. I got a little lazy I must admit and took the easy way out. Something I am all too good at doing

I found the above image of the reindeer and fell in love with it and really wanted to use it so I figured a way to just incorporate it pretty easily into my current theme which I just edited right in WordPress because I was too lazy to create a new theme and besides, I want to try a different WordPress starter theme to build a theme from next time. So I apologize in advance for the early Christmas stuff, I know, it’s not even the end of November yet..

It’s been a long couple days since we had to stay up in the city in a hotel so I was near the hospital but we are home now and it’s time for bed. I got to spend some quality time with my mom in the car and that’s all that matters!

House & Dog Sitting

My parents went to Connecticut on Tuesday for a week to visit our cousins there for a birthday party and they asked us to house & dog sit for the week at their place as well as get my brother back and forth to school every day. We came over Tuesday night to stay for the week. I love their place. It’s actually owned by one of the cousins she’s visiting and her husband.

The house is 170 years old, built in 1849. I wrote about its resident ghost Ethel here a few months back. It’s such a lovely old house but cold and drafty I have not been able to get warm since we’ve been here. I also have a bit of a break from work since my mom won’t be officially training me to be her office manager until she comes back.

We are dog sitting my parents two dogs Scamp who’s about 8 years old now and Karli who is now about a year, both of whom they’ve had since little puppies. Actually, Scamp was the puppy of one of my parent’s previous dogs and I was there when he was born. I named him after he bit (more like chewed or sucked) my mom’s nose the first time she picked him up.

So far it’s been pretty easy. Even my brother has been kind of quiet and mellow and fairly easy to deal with. Edwards has been enjoying himself mostly. We go to our place every morning to check on Max our cat and feed him and cuddle as well as get showers neither of us much like their well water here. It’s really hard and rusty and smells.

They’ll be back mid-week next week. It’s almost sort of like a mini-vacation only not really I’ve been playing a lot of the Sims 4 mostly and watching Shameless and some movies.
