Sims 4 – Cats & Dogs

I did up our tax returns this past Tuesday and because we have both only been working part-time and because I spent over half the year technically unemployed, along with the over $2000 I spent in medication this year and diabetic supplies we are getting a hefty amount back, that plus I got approved for EI and also got from December 22nd to now all at once. Somehow once again we managed to avoid a sticky situation as we were concerned financially when I ended up unemployed again. We are going to be able to be back to owing nothing at all except the car (even the credit card will be paid in full) once we get it. Edward also is getting cross-trained in another position, that coupled with me working until I start school we are back in decent shape again and even can start on our savings again. Talk about relief!

So we decided to treat ourselves, he got Red Dead Redemption 2 and I got a bundle for the Sims 4 of Cats & Dogs, Realm of Magic and Backyard Stuff. I had previously purchased Get to Work and Tiny Living for Christmas and never really played with the content and worlds in either yet. I also have some others like Island Living, Seasons, Outdoor Retreat and some of stuff packs. So needless to say I have tons of new content to explore in the Sims 4. I have been a huge Sims fan since the original The Sims back in 2000. I can’t believe it’s been 20 years! Wow, I feel old. I was only 19 when it came out! And I have been hooked on the franchise ever since. I played SimCity as well before The Sims. I think I started with SimCity 2000. Anyways, enough history, I have been playing since I bought the expansion packs yesterday and it is so much fun. I have really only been playing in Brindleton Bay and with the cats. I have not really gone into any of the Realm of Magic stuff yet. I will save that maybe for another day.

I made myself a tiny house last night, a micro actually, 32 x 32 and decorated it. I did base it off a house I tried downloading and using from the gallery that I really liked, but for some reason my Sim had issues moving around the house even though I had the move objects cheat on and I even moved some of the furniture around and tried to get it to work. Finally, I gave up and sort of rebuilt it, sort of made it my own. I love to build but I am not very great with ideas. I do like to try and re-create micro and tiny houses from real house plans and decorate them. They don’t always turn out the way I want though. Just need more practice building I guess. I now have a bit more than half the expansion packs, game packs and stuff packs for Sims 4 now. I don’t want to even think about the amount I have spent on them over the years (we won’t even talk about The Sims or Sims 3, didn’t get into Sims 2 much).

I’ve never really been one to make up an elaborate storyline and record or do much other than play but I wouldn’t mind doing a bit of that, maybe some of the challenges people have come up with as well. The only mod installed right now is the one that stops the damn murphy bed from picking off my Sims one by one. It’s killed so many Sims it’s not funny. So I was glad when I saw the mod. I am going to look for some more mods and cc (custom content) at some point but for right now I am just enjoying what the game itself has to offer with each expansion pack.

Doctors appointments & funny story

We traveled to Halifax today for a doctor’s appointment with our family doctor. Of all days today turned out not to be the best day to be on the roads in Nova Scotia. We had a big storm that came through the province today bringing a mess of weather. When we left it was calling for sustained winds of 80km/hour with gusts exceeding 100km/hour, not all that unusual here as we have been seeing more and more high winds, but they are damaging to trees and power lines and buildings. On top of that, we had everything from torrential downpours, higher than normal tides, flooding, slush, snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain and we got to experience it all while driving.

We left about 10 a.m., our appointments were at 2:30 and 2:45 so we could just go in together like we always do, my husband and I. It took us 4 hours driving the old highway all the way to New Minas, stopping at A&W for lunch and then the new highway the rest of the way. It’s usually a 2 1/2 hour drive but we just wanted to take it really slow and take our time. I actually enjoyed the weather. On the way up it started out windy before we left with some rain, by the time we got on the road it was pouring and as we drove up through the valley it would go from rain to ice pellets to freezing rain and back again. It was slushy and slippery but the car (and myself) handled it well.

No word of a lie by the time we were heading back from the doctor’s office around 4 p.m. it looked like the picture above from Halifax past Windsor and into the valley a ways. I asked Edward to get some pictures but as we were driving and the windows were covered in water and ice and the movement of the car they didn’t turn out. So I am using stock photos to give you an idea. It was so beautiful, even if a little hazardous to be driving in. Honestly though, only once or twice did it go through my mind why the hell are we still driving. There were so many people out on the roads. Surprisingly though everyone was going slow and careful. Nova Scotians are not usually known to slow down for the road conditions, something that annoys me so much.

Speaking of things that annoy me, funny story and maybe TMI but something kind of funny happened when we were in A&W that I feel like sharing. At least it was funny to me, if not somewhat annoying. When we got to A&W it surprisingly empty. I had to use the washroom so we ordered and while Eddie waited for our order I went to use the washroom. So here I am sitting on the toilet doing my business when someone walked in, there were only two stalls and she went into the second one. Almost right away her cell rang and she answered it in the washroom, one of my pet peeves, nothing can be so important that you can’t wait the 3 minutes it takes to use the washroom and call the person back, but no she answered it and started a conversation.

By this point, I’m done and struggling with a new roll of toilet paper that did not want to cooperate, you know how it is, it tears in strips and is all uneven and by the time you’re done with the roll it looks like Freddy Krueger got at it, or someones cat, not mine as he doesn’t do that, but someones cat. Anyways, it obviously made a lot of noise on those typical restartaunt and store metal contraptions they call toilet paper holders and I hear her say to the person she is having a conversation with “some people are so rude” and I thought she was talking about something else, maybe someone the other person mentioned.

So I flush the toilet and go to open the stall door and I hear “Do you mind? I’m trying to have a conversation here!” and I was like “Huh? Me” and she’s like “Yeah, you. You’re making a lot of noise and I’m trying to talk to someone.” At this point, I’m thinking WTH? Really is she shaming me because I dared to wipe my ass and flush the toilet in a public bathroom? What else was I supposed to do? Wait quietly in the stall till she finished talking to whoever she was talking to? It wasn’t like she answered quickly and said “I’ll call back”, no she decided to have a whole conversation, so I said very loudly “You’re in a washroom! Do you mind taking your conversation elsewhere? I’m trying to shit here”. I never heard another peep out of her. She never said anything else, but damned if I didn’t take extra-long and make all the noise I could turning on the water, getting soap, washing my hands, turning off the water, getting paper towel (no air dryer or I would have been sure to run that) and opening the washroom door.

Short story #1

Intro: I have been trying for days to come up with a short story idea. I really suck at it. I want to start out with something I am comfortable with. I love anything to do with ghosts. I love kids’ stories, especially pre-teens. I figured I would combine the two, but still, I couldn’t really come up with anything so I used a random first line generator and what came up was “The key to communicating with Aliens was starting me right in the face”. Perfect, change Aliens to ghosts and we have a story…

The key to communicating with ghosts was staring me right in the face. I took a step back and shook my head. Could I really be seeing this? Was there really a ghost in front of me? Was it really trying to communicate with me after all these years of trying? Was this seriously going to happen? These were all the questions I asked myself as I stared back at it. Hesitantly I took a step forward.

“A-are you a ghost?” I asked it. Uh yeah, of course, it was. Why would I ask that? The ghost just stared at me.

After a moment, “What do you think?”, it said.

“Are you sure?” I asked. Wow… no brownie points here! I must be the stupidest kid in the world. I looked the ghost up and down. I just couldn’t believe my eyes. He was about my age (12 if your wondering) and a little shorter then me and had on some funny looking clothes.

“Yes”, he said. “Are you sure you’re a girl?” he asked.

“Uh… yeah. I am.” I answered.

“Well, now that we’ve established that. What else do you want to ask me?” he said.

“Umm… I don’t know”, I shyly answered. Why now of all times am I being shy I thought. Usually, you can’t shut me up. I get in trouble all the time at home and at school. My best friend, Franklin, calls me Rambling Ramona. I go on and on and on.

“Go on then, there must be something you want to ask me. It’s not every day you see a ghost.”

“Wha-wha-whats your name?” I asked.

“Edward and what’s yours?” he looked at me waiting.

“Ra-ramona” I spit out. I couldn’t believe this! I was talking to a ghost. A real live ghost.

Wait… live, who am I kidding? I can see right through him. Again I looked at him. Was it rude to be staring? Should I ask him anything? What did I want to know? Why was I having such a hard time? All these thoughts were going through my head but I was still processing the fact that I was standing in front of a real live ghost!

No… wait… we went over this already, Ramona, remember? He’s not alive. I can see right through him. Wow, I thought. This can’t be real.

This is going to be a work in progress so bear with me and let me know what you think! I think I am going to try and post a little bit every week or so. Feedback is much appreciated as well
