What will the New Year bring?

In the span of 2 1/2 weeks I paid off my bankruptcy, got the internet back, lost my uncle and got pneumonia. So the end of October was a little bit hectic… so many ups and downs. All I can say is I am looking forward to Christmas and the New Year.

I got a call on the Tuesday my Uncle died as I was getting ready for work from my mom, I did not get to it in time and the voicemail picked up, it was her and she was sobbing and asked me to call her back. I called and she let me know my Uncle had passed away. He was 51.

I went in to work, let them know what was going on and then grabbed the car and headed home to Digby. Cory had to work and I was not sure what was going on so I left him in the city. My uncle had passed away early Tuesday morning, the funeral was Sunday.

It’s hard loosing a loved one, and to be honest I still am not really ready to face that he is gone. It’s too hard to think about it. So maybe I’ll talk about that more in a while. For now I am just not ready.

While in Digby I payed off my bankruptcy. I should be getting the conditional discharge papers soon and I am really looking forward to starting to build my credit back up and getting on with my life, financially.  I still have about $500 outside the bankruptcy I owe but that’s going to get paid before the New Year. I have everything else paid up. All my bills are current, what a feeling!

We made the decision to get internet back. Cory wants cable and I wanted internet but we could not get both for at least 6 months (cause of the bankruptcy). I paid the first bill, 2 weeks before it was due by. My next goal is to put aside some money over the next year or two for a down payment on a place to live. We want to own. Have a yard, our own place.

Just as I was getting somewhere money wise, I get pneumonia, and so does Cory. Our next pay’s are going to suck. But we still have enough to pay all bills and have tons of food so we will be fine. I can’t believe I have missed 2 weeks (one for my Uncle and one because of pneumonia) and money wise it has barely affected us. This is where I have been hoping to be. I am finally here.

Time to get Cory in the same shape.

  1. I feel for you on the ups and downs, so many positive things that were followed by negative. I hate it when life decides to be bipolar =/

I am sorry to hear about your Uncle, but I also want to congratulate you on coming so far from debt *hugs* Here’s hoping that life can continue to improve!

    1. Yeah me too but even the negative can have lessons in the end I guess.

Thanks about my Uncle. I miss him so much.

I’m so happy to be out of debt

  2. Congratulations on paying all of that off! You’ve worked extremely hard and that must have been a magnificent feeling. I’ve learned from firsthand experience that working too much could compromise one’s health. (I’m working 2 part time jobs and attending school full time. I tend to fall quite ill during exam time. T_T) I’m sure that once you get through everything, you’ll get that magnificent feeling again. =)

I am also sorry to hear about your loss. Your uncle was still young and for that to happen when it did must have put a greater toll on you. =( I hope that you get well soon, and best of luck with everything to come!

(And just as an aside, I think getting internet is a better choice. I’m sure anything that is on cable will eventually land up on here anyway haha.)

    1. Wow I could not image working that much and going to school as well! Nuts. But I know you gotta do what you gotta do to make ends meet sometimes!

He was far too young to die. It’s hard. He had heart problems and asthma really bad but it was still such a shock to everyone.

I agree about everything on cable ending up on the internet. I have netfix and most networks have a website you can watch current episodes of your favorite shows.

  3. Sorry about your uncle. My uncle died young too from a heart attack. I hope you and your family are doing okay. And good job with the money! It’s such a great feeling when you don’t owe anyone any money. I became debt free last year and it was awesome.

    1. I’m assuming that is what my uncle died of too or a blood clot as he was complaining of severe pain in one leg for the week or so leading up to his death. There was no autopsy though so we really don’t know.

Debt free really does feel great
